Landmark
Bold and Beautiful
Microsoft approached Gen City Labs with a concept to create “The Landmark” to physically represent Microsoft’s Worldview: the intelligent cloud, intelligent edge (ICIE). This is a bold and highly visible kinetic sculpture and interactive installation that has been traveling to various Microsoft trade shows around the country, capturing hearts and minds of attendees, sponsors, and partners.
GCL partnered with DGTL, a fabrication studio to build a dome, a circular LED screen that hangs from the ceiling, and a center medallion with moving rings and a double-sided LED screen in the center. Colorful LED lights cover the exterior of the dome and moving rings to bring the entire structure to life.
At the base of the medallion are 12 interactive kiosk stations that feature two touchscreen applications created by GCLG. The first is a 3D farming simulation that introduces audiences to the concept of precision farming and how using AI and IoT devices makes farming more efficient so that we can better feed our growing population. The second application is a storytelling platform that allows Microsoft’s sponsors and partners to tell high-level stories using Sway, a Microsoft presentation tool.
The Landmark was featured in the keynote at Microsoft Ignite in Orlando. It has also won the Freeman Design Impact Award.
